The Good, the Bad and the Fabulous from 2022

I have been awfully quite, haven’t I? Not that it matters to the inter-web, seeing as I am not a viral personality at this stage but being quiet on this blog felt very uncharacteristic to me so I decided to make a comeback today. What better day than the first working day of the year to reflect upon your goals for the new year.

Why do we need a new year to make new goals? A lot of us associate the new year with making drastic changes to the way we live and oftentimes the result is a list of unachievable or unrealistic goals and timelines and a spectacular failure. But the end of the year has a certain finality to it, that makes everyone reflect.

2022 has been a year of a lot of fabulous, a lot of good, and sadly, a sizeable amount of bad. But this has also been the year of acknowledging the “bad” and seeking help to fix it.

2022 will go down in my life story as the year I published my first book. Nothing will beat that feeling of knowing that there are people out there reading the words that were mere thoughts in my head at one point. My brain baby is just as precious to me as people’s human babies are to them. Yes, they are different things. And yes, I can still compare them.

2022 is also the year I capitalised on networking opportunities. Networking was one of my biggest nightmares. Walking into a room full of people I don’t know is literally the least attractive way of spending an evening that I can think of. Well, not anymore. It took stepping out of my comfort zone once in a very random setting on a trip to London. It was a wine-tasting dinner and I was given a seat in the midst of a group of white, middle-aged men who wanted nothing more than to go to a French vineyard in the summer. I, on the other hand, was a twenty-nine-year-old girl who did not realise that this was going to be a dinner where conversation with other guests would be expected. But instead of shitting myself, I got on with chatting to my neighbour about the wine and the food, made some new friends, and introduced myself as an author for the very first time, feeling a sense of liberation I had never experienced before.

So, accumulating the experiences of 2022 has given me one big goal for 2023. The goal for 2023 is to work. Just work hard and watch the success rain all over me. Whatever it is that I want, just work for it. No shortcuts, no expectations- just put in the work.

Wishing everyone a glorious 2023!
